We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Social Emotional Counsellor to join a leading international school in Suzhou, China. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students, supporting their emotional well-being and fostering a healthy, balanced approach to mental health within the school community.
 
As a Social Emotional Counsellor, you will be part of a forward-thinking, student-centered school that values the holistic development of its students. You will work closely with staff, parents, and students to create a supportive environment where all students feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive both academically and emotionally.
 
About the Role:
In this role, you will provide individual and group counselling services to students across all year groups, focusing on emotional well-being, personal development, and the prevention of mental health issues. You will also work proactively to develop programs and initiatives that promote social-emotional learning and mental health awareness within the school community.
 
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide confidential counselling support to students facing social, emotional, and psychological challenges.
- Develop and implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs that support the mental health and well-being of students.
- Lead workshops and initiatives to raise awareness around mental health and provide tools for students to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a supportive network for students’ well-being.
- Monitor and assess students’ emotional progress, and develop intervention plans as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention and support in times of need.
- Offer guidance and resources for parents on supporting their children’s emotional and social development.
- Maintain accurate records of counselling sessions and collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the school community.
 
What We're Looking For:
* A qualified and experienced counsellor, psychologist, or social worker with a background in supporting young people’s emotional and mental health.
* Strong knowledge and experience in social-emotional learning frameworks and mental health best practices.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, staff, and parents.
* Experience in providing individual and group counselling sessions in an international school setting or similar environment.
* A proactive and empathetic approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
* A commitment to supporting the holistic development of students and contributing to a positive, supportive school culture.

Minimum Application Requirements

Qualification:
Minimum Qualification Requirement: M.Ed, B.Ed or a relevant Bachelor's Degree with a Teaching Qualification
Experience:

Must be western trained (USA, Canada, UK, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand & South Africa)
Must be a native speaker of English
Prefer candidates with international experience
Teachers with a degree but no teaching qualification are NOT accepted
Experienced teachers with no qualification are NOT accepted
Non-western trained teachers who have worked in an international educational institute before are NOT accepted

Remuneration Package

Salary Range:
A salary   CNY (Chinese Yuan Renminbi) per month based on experience and qualification, 10-25 % Tax is applied
Housing:
