August 2026 start
 
An exceptional opportunity has opened for an University Counsellor to join an innovative, growing British international school in Lagos, Nigeria. As the school prepares to launch its IGCSE and A Level programs, we are looking for a passionate and experienced professional to guide students through the university application process, helping them achieve their academic and career aspirations.

Key Responsibilities:
- University Guidance: Provide comprehensive advice and support for students through the entire university application process, including selecting appropriate universities, writing personal statements, and preparing for interviews.
- University Research: Stay informed about global university trends, opportunities, and application procedures, ensuring students receive up-to-date and accurate information on potential pathways.
- Individual & Group Support: Offer one-on-one and group sessions for university applications, standardized testing advice (such as SAT, ACT, or UK-based exams), and general career guidance.
- Applications Management: Assist students with preparing their university applications (UCAS, Common App, etc.), ensuring they are completed on time and to the highest standard.
- Workshops & Seminars: Organize and run workshops on topics like university research, essay writing, time management, personal branding, and scholarship opportunities.
- Standardized Testing Guidance: Provide students with expert advice on standardized testing options (SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS), as well as help with test preparation and strategy.
- College & University Liaison: Build and maintain relationships with universities and institutions worldwide to facilitate student access to information and opportunities.
- Holistic Development: Work closely with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a well-rounded approach to the university application process, addressing any academic, emotional, or logistical challenges.
- Pastoral Care: Offer support to students during the often stressful process of applying for universities, providing counseling and reassurance along the way.
 
What We’re Looking For:
*Experience: Proven experience as a University Counsellor or Higher Education Adviser, with a strong track record of helping students gain places at top universities worldwide.
*In-depth Knowledge: Expertise in university admissions processes across a range of countries (UK, US, Canada, etc.), as well as familiarity with standardized testing and university scholarships.
*Personalized Support: Strong skills in providing individualized support and advice to students, tailoring your approach to each student’s goals, strengths, and aspirations.
*Strong Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to work with students, parents, and staff in a culturally diverse, international setting.
*Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple students’ applications and deadlines, working efficiently under pressure.
*Academic Background: A degree in a relevant field (such as Education, Psychology, or Career Counseling), with specific training in university counseling being highly desirable.
*Cultural Sensitivity & Adaptability: Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, with the ability to tailor advice to the specific needs of each individual.
*Empathy & Patience: The ability to listen to students’ concerns, offer support during stressful moments, and guide them through decision-making with care and understanding.
 
Desirable:
*Experience with IGCSE & A Level students and understanding the nuances of British and international university applications.
*Fluency in multiple languages would be a plus, especially for students from diverse backgrounds.
*Knowledge of scholarship and financial aid opportunities for students pursuing higher education.

Prefer candidates with international experience
Teachers with a degree but no teaching qualification are NOT accepted

Non-western trained teachers who have worked in an international educational institute before are NOT accepted

Remuneration Package

Salary Range:
A salary from 35,000 up to 50,000  USD (U.S. Dollar) per annum based on experience and qualification, TAX FREE
