Career Counsellor Director | International Teaching opportunity in Shanghai | August 2019 start
We are currently seeking a Director of Career Counsellor on behalf of our established client in Shanghai. This is a non-profit private school located in Shanghai city.
The school has 3 separate campuses, two located in central Shanghai City and the High School campus is located in the suburb of Shanghai, approximately, 45 mins drive away from the centre. This position will be based in their High School campus.
Job scope:
**Leads the University and Careers Counseling programme
**Manages the University and Careers Counseling personnel
**Educates students, parents, faculty and all other relevant stakeholders in the areas of career planning, the university admissions processes, and standardized external testing
**Advises and supports a group of senior students and their families as they go through the university application process
An ideal candidate for the position should have:
- Bachelor degree or higher in the relevant subject
- Strong experience in university counselling and/or admissions (international school experience preferred)
- Good understanding of international college admission's processes
- Experience with IBDP programme and Naviance software
- Bilingual speaker preferred (Chinese and English)
- Professional counselling qualification and/or certifications in home country
- Strong communication skills and flexible to adapt to a new culture
Key Responsibilities:
**Manages the other members of the Director of University and Careers Counseling Department, including allocation of tasks and responsibilities, routine supervision, providing support for relevant professional development, and completing performance appraisals
**Promotes awareness and understanding of the school among the global university admissions community
**Leads the programme to counsel students effectively in the areas of career and university choices and related application processes
**Ensures that students receive appropriate and consistent advice from all members of the counselling department about appropriate university choices and effective applications processes
**Coordinates representational visits to universities in China and internationally by counselling team members
**Collaborates with colleagues in the Academic Affairs Office to advise students in the selection of academic courses
**Leads the implementation of a parent education programme to help parents understand applications processes, the role of parents, and the concept of “appropriate fit”; provides guidance for final application choices
**Determines resources needs for the university and careers counselling programme, and submits a related annual budget proposal to the Executive Principal
**Manages the annual departmental budget
**Meets with students, individually and in groups, to talk about process and individual college choices
**Supports the participation of students in standardized external test
**Facilitates visits by, and meetings with, university admissions representatives
**Liaises with university admissions offices throughout the year
**Oversees the creation of the annual School Profile document
**Writes official school recommendation letters for students and prepares relevant necessary mid-year and end-of-year reports
**Maintains and shares information about colleges and universities, including, tuition, scholarships, and financial aid
**Stays aware of issues and trends in university admission, tertiary education, standardized testing
**Maintains membership in, and/or connections with, relevant professional organizations such as the College Board, the National Association of College Admission Counselors, the New England Association of College Admission Counselors, and International Association for College Admission Counseling;
**Provides relevant reports to the Executive Principal, Board of Governors and other stakeholders, as required
**Maintains and disseminates information about standardized tests, and arranges for extended time on these tests, as warranted
**Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Principal
