Description

Tashkent Ulugbek International School comes under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan. TUIS is looking for a Secondary Geography/Economics Teacher in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, ideally single but family/dependents are welcome to apply.

Requirements:
1.     Fully qualified teacher
2.     Expertise in teaching and assessment of the relevant subjects
3.     Commitment to the core values of the school
4.     Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English
5.     Ability to be flexible in an ever-changing world of education.

Responsibilities:
1.     Ability to teach Geography, economics, business studies

Remuneration Package:
1.     TAX-FREE Salary of 2500 to 2800 USD negotiable. There is no school during the months of June, July, and August.
2.     Children of teachers can get 50% discount on tuition fees. Tuition fees currently about 6000 USD for the academic year. Fees can be paid in instalments for 3000 USD.
3.     Cheap health care in government hospitals
4.     School provides free medical check, usually in November.
5.     Emergency local health care is provided.
6.     One way flight to Tashkent provided.

Living in TashkentCost of living in Tashkent, Uzbekistan is cheap with 700-800 USD a month for rent, utilities cost about 50 USD and internet cost is 10 USD. This would mean that a teacher could save about 10,000 a year.

Additional Important Information:
1.     The school will apply for an entry visa for the teacher (and family). This can be collected at the airport on arrival and must be paid for in USD by the teacher. The school will arrange and pay for the long-term employment visa and work permit for the teacher after arrival.
2.     The MFA would do the checks and hopefully issue a telex number which we would send to the teacher. The teacher would show the immigration official at the airport the telex document.  They would put an entry visa in the teacher's passport. The teacher would need some USD in new bills to pay for it, maybe about 100 or 200 USD depending on the teacher's citizenship.
3.     The teacher will meet someone from the team at the airport to take him/her to the apartment. The apartments near the school are usually about 800 USD. The school can help the teacher find accommodation before the teacher arrives. The teacher would need to arrive in Tashkent in August for the start of the academic year in September until the end of May.
4.     The salary can be paid in local currency in a local bank or in USD in an overseas bank. If the teacher chooses an overseas bank s/he would need to bring the account details and Swift number. S/he would also need a Visa card to be able to draw local currency from ATM machines. If the teacher arrives ready to start working in September, the first salary is not likely to arrive in the overseas account before the middle of October and maybe longer if problems arise so the teacher might find it is better to be paid in local currency.
5.     Furthermore, the teacher would need access to enough money to cover accommodation, food, entry visa on arrival at the airport etc. before getting paid the first salary.
6.     After the teacher has arrived, the school would arrange to get a long-term employment visa to replace the temporary entry visa. The school would pay for the long-term visa. The school would also pay for the work permit.
7.     The academic year is 34 weeks which is 170 school days. Holidays during the academic year are officially for students. Although teachers are free to travel around Uzbekistan during these periods, the teacher would not be paid for any days spent outside Uzbekistan. So, it is better if the teacher leaves travelling overseas until the 3-month summer break. For each month the teacher works s/he would get 4 days of paid holiday which would be paid with the final salary at the end of May. September to May is nine months so the teacher would get 36 days of paid holiday. If both sides agree the contract could be renewed every academic year.
