What Lessons Should We Teach Our Students?

Children need to understand the fundamentals in life to succeed and stay humble. These are basics that you need to know in life to live a happy, positive life without negativity. These lessons help you grow into a kind and grateful person with morals; dignity in life.

Respect

This is important to understand others and respect their opinions. Giving respect to everyone no matter what regardless of their background, colour, race, religion, gender etc. To earn respect, you need to give respect. Respect is given by showing care or concern for their feelings or needs or decisions.

Grace and Forgiveness

This is the most fundamental lesson for kids to understand others mistake and forgive them by showing elegance and encourage them to learn from it! Kids learn from their elders, you should allow them to make mistakes and learn from it instead of scolding which helps them grow and follow you to show grace and forgiveness towards others.

Empathy

Empathy is necessary for every child to understand each other’s feelings and be more careful; kinder to each other. A great way to practice this is by reading the books based on empathy and compassion to makes them understand other children has different lives to them and it’s okay to talk about their struggles and have open conversations with their mentor and parents to help them with their needs as children’s can be going through a lot of changes while growing and that impacts on their mental and physical health.

How to disagree

Students should understand it’s okay to have opinions and different point of views than others; they don’t have to agree with everything. It’s good for kids to disagree as that was distinguishes them and allows them to see the right and wrong in something. To involve this, you should carry out debate activities on a topic and assign them to write an article about why they disagree with evidence to support their answers.

How to fail

To give them ease and tell them that life is not perfect; it’s okay to fail and learn from it to succeed. Failure pushes us to do better and accomplish more in life. If they don’t fail, they won’t appreciate life and don’t understand the hard parts that come in life, nothing is easy. You must work hard and do it right to gain success.

The importance of diversity and inclusion

This is crucial to live in this world, they must understand there are many different people in this world from varieties of backgrounds, religions, families, cultures, appearances, abilities and opinions that are different to them and that’s what makes us all unique. It’s vital as a teacher to give knowledge to students on this topics and teach them about different countries, cultures and discuss important issues to raise awareness and prevent them from being narrow-minded and in their own society.

Curiosity and compassion

They should know to treat everyone equally and with compassion by owning up to their mistakes and working. Understanding each person lives differently; has different experiences to them. To have an open heart and mind towards others; you should maintain discipline and grading methods with group activities to discuss and listen to others. To address social and cultural issues in the world; controversial topics such as racism, homophobia, masculinity, etc.

Everything is a choice

You should teach them this, it’s a part of life, whether you like it or not, you need to make a choice and choices don’t come without difficulties. You have to be strong to accept the result and make it confidently and by righteous to be able to succeed in the future and make important decisions by themselves.

Growth mindset

As their teacher, you should encourage them in their education and let them know they will learn at their own pace, it shouldn’t be a competition, they don’t need to be better than the other. They will succeed in their own time and will be better compared to others in different subjects.

Awareness of others

To teach them to acknowledge of others by small gestures like saying ‘thank you’ when someone passes textbook in the classroom to others or saying ‘hello’ as they sit next to their partner in classwork. These are a great technique to greet others, notice them by engaging and develops a positive environment for students at the school as at times they can feel lost; lonely without the human interaction.
