The British School of Bahrain was founded on the 8th of January 1995 but its origins go back as far as 1990 when Alex Welford, a British expatriate living in Bahrain, turned her villa into a small school for around 20 children, today however, the school caters for children from Primary Year 1 through Secondary School and into its own Sixth Form. The school is located on a campus in Hamala.

The school uses the National Curriculum of the United Kingdom including Foundation Stage (Kindergarten & Reception), Key Stages 1 (Years 1 & 2), Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 9), Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) and Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13). All students are required to be able to speak a good level of English and all lessons are taught accordingly. The school’s philosophy is that everyone has the potential to learn with the right support and in the way of support, the school offers numerous facilities including several music rooms, science labs, a drama studio, art rooms, tennis courts, a floodlit astro-turf football pitch, a large cafeteria and two indoor pools (one smaller for younger children).

The British School of Bahrain provides a detailed programme of extra-curricular activities in order to develop their students learning capabilities and personalities as well as leadership skills and ability to work in teams.
