Leadership Opportunity in Shanghai - Head of Outdoor Education role needed for a non-profit Bilingual School in Shanghai!
Our client is looking to appoint a dynamic, qualified and enthusiastic teacher to lead all aspects of their outdoor education activities. The successful candidate will be a graduate (in any subject) who has a passion for experience in organising and leading a range of outdoor experiences for young people.
Shanghai is a cosmopolitan city with so much to offer. The city is modern, developed, also known as "Oriental Paris". There are a lot of designer shops, shopping malls but you can also find fabric markets and tailor shops too, many people love to tailor-make their own clothes of their choice. Tian Zi Fang is the artistic and fashion culture area, a lot of artists set their design office and studio here. There are also many art & craft shops, bars and restaurants within the area, it is very popular with young people and expat.
Our client is a non-profit private school located in Shanghai city. The school has 3 separate campuses, one being the Primary school, one Middle and a High school with boarding facilities. This position is based in the High School campus located about 40 mins away in Shanghai city centre. The Secondary campus caters for children from aged 14 to 18 years.
An ideal candidate for the position should have:
**A degree in any subject
**Relevant qualifications (eg Summer Mountain Leadership or similar)
**Wide-ranging knowledge of the outdoor industry and best practice
**Relevant First Aid qualification
** High-quality literacy and numeracy skills.
**Good administrative and communication skills.
**Formal teaching experience and /or experience of working with children is desirable
Role and responsibilities:
**To lead the International Award (Duke of Edinburgh Award) programme.
**To teach expedition skills to pupils as part of our Co-Curricular Activities programme.
**To help celebrate the success of the pupils and students at all levels of the Scheme by ensuring those who achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold are acknowledged within the School.
**To manage the planning and delivery of expeditions, ensuring that the practical, administrative and risk management requirements are fully in place for each trip.
**To develop more local opportunities for adventurous activities at the weekend.
**To ensure that the School benefits from the opportunities of being a member of the ‘Round Square’ group of Schools and to work with the Principal to lead our involvement with the group.
**To produce comprehensive risk assessments for all outdoor activities run by the School so as to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
**To develop team-building activities and a leadership programme for students across the School, including appropriate training and induction of our Senior Prefects in conjunction with the Dean of Student Life and Director of Co-curricular activities.
**To plan and lead trips in some of the school holidays.
**To help with the organization of our annual Zhixing trips (a week of trips during term time that we currently encourage all students to take part in)
**To check qualifications of staff undertaking outdoor activities and arrange appropriate training including First Aid Training.
**To manage School equipment, the Outdoor activities store and the Outdoor Activities budget including the provision of an itemised bid for an annual budget.
